About Our Council
Our Parish Council was founded in November, 1989, with 33 members. Our current membership now numbers about 120.

Perhaps our most widely recognized and anticipated activity is our annual Lenten fish fry dinners. These fish dinners were initiated in the mid 90's by then Grand Knight Larry Hoskinson. Larry was looking for a fund raising activity that would enable our Council to more readily respond to charitable requests. The fish dinners have indeed become our best revenue source. A salad bar distinguishes our dinners from the competition. More recently we have also added a meat wheel to increase the enjoyment (and the revenue).

Pro-Life causes have always been important. To that end we conduct the One Rose One Life campaign in January and we also participate in the Buck-a-Month fund raising activity. On the local scene Council members spent many hours refurbishing and furnishing one of the rooms at the new "Women's Care Center of the Heartland" (WCCH). This building was formerly a convent at St. Patrick's Church. This facility is now called Bethlehem House. Other local pro-life groups we regularly support include Essential Pregnancy Services, A Woman's Touch, and Pope Paul VI Institute.

On the community level we host a Red Cross blood drive two times a year. The annual Tootsie Roll Drive to aid the mentally handicapped has long been supported by our Council.

St. Thomas More Church and School are at the core of our fraternal activities. We co-sponser our Parish Perpetual Adoration Society. Our Council spearheaded repair of the St. Thomas More statue in front of the church following vandalism that beheaded the statue. Restoration included a new and taller pedestal for the statue to forestall future vandalism attempts. We annually provide a $1000 and a $500 scholarship to two STM eighth-graders who are going on to Catholic high schools. We also sponsor an annual Free Throw Contest for local boys & girls. Winners in that competition can go on to compete in district, state and national levels if they qualify.

Our social activities include a "Knights and Wives" dinner held each January. In summer we hold a family potluck in conjunction with installation of officers for the new fraternal year. A family brunch follows our Corporate Communion that we typically hold each year.
