The St. James Knights of Columbus, Council 1728, are active in a wide variety of projects throughout the year.  These projects directly benefit those in need here in the Kearney community and world wide.  In 2002, Council 1728 donated over 4600 hours of community service and $28,000!  Anyone can volunteer for as many projects as they desire and all are welcome to join the community building activities that are just for fun!  The Knights of Columbus are a great way to get involved with people with a solid catholic atmosphere.

Family Fish Fry during lent each of the past three years has been a great way to get together with family and friends.  Held on each Friday (except Good Friday) of lent at the Knights Hall (1900 Central Avenue).

National Antique Tractor Pull -  Over 70 member Knights helped to make and serve food, weigh in and register pullers, and handle track activities.

Bingo is held every Tuesday night with hamburgers being served from 5:30 to 7:00 P.M. and bingo starting at 7:00.  This activity helps raise funds and build relationships.

Knights Choir sings at numerous church activities including Midnight Mass.  The group practices before each presentation and new voices are always welcome.

Church League Softball - The two councils in Kearney usually sponsor two softball teams every summer that participate in the Kearney Softball Church League.  Great exercise and entertainment for the whole family.

Golf is another summer activity that is held on at Buffalo Ridge Golf Club and is open to all members and their families.

Tootsie Roll drive for the mentally handicapped including ARC of Buffalo County, Nebraska.

One Rose, One Life for the unborn.

Thanksgiving feast held at Knights of Columbus Hall for those alone or without family.

Family Christmas Caroling at local nursing homes.

Family Picnics with great food and fun.

Dinner at the Theater with members.

Monthly steak fry and council meeting. 

Free Throw shooting contest to advance to state and national competition.

Highway Cleanup of a section of I-80.
