The present fine weather is enabling the contractors to make good progress with the work on the base of the Cathedral. The last course of stone has just been laid on a portion of the north wall, so that visitors can now see what the whole base will look like when completed.
Workman have also begun to prepare the foundations for the circular wall of the apse, which work was not provided for in the last contract.
Mr. Kimball, the architect, is now busy preparing a private memorial chapel, which is to be built near the tower on the north side. This chapel promises to be one of the most interesting features of the Cathedral, and we hope to be able to give a full description of it before long.
