You can become an insurance member of the Knights of Columbus by applying for a small permanent whole life insurance policy at a cost of just $50 per year.  This is a very good policy for such a low, low cost.
Because of this unique rate, a member and his wife are eligible for only one “New Member Plan” each and only once-in-a-lifetime!  Our new insurance field agent will be at our May 6th meeting.
To find out more about this offer come to the May 6th meeting and meet our new agent.

60TH ANNIVERSARY OF THE DEATH OF FATHER FLANAGAN

Sixty years ago this month the headline and the top story in the“Clarion” was:

K. of C. Mourns the Passing of its Beloved Knight, Father Flanagan

The death of Father Flanagan in Germany on May 15, cost Omaha Council its dearest and best known member.
Omaha Council joins humbly in the expressions of sorrow and bereavement which have come to Boys Town from the leading figures of all walks of American life.  Omaha Council joins them humbly but with great pride for it knows that Father Flanagan joined the Knights of Columbus in a class of the Omaha Council thirty-five years ago on May 18, 1913.
Omaha Council is grateful to God for the opportunity it had of seeing and knowing and loving so great a man.   We pray that God will raise up another such man so that boys will have another friend and champion.

Masses For Fr. Flanagan

To honor Father Flanagan this month, we will be attending a Mass in his honor on May 6th, 6:00 p.m., at St. Cecilia Cathedral in the Nebraska Chapel.   As always, this Mass is open to anyone, so bring your family.  This will be on the night of our membership meeting.  Attend Mass and come to the meeting at 7:30 p.m.
Then on May 15 our council, (Father Flanagan of Boys Town) and the Ancient Order of Hibernians (Father Flanagan Division) will attend 11:40 a.m. Mass at Boys Town.   After Mass the Knights and Hibernians will each lay a wreath at Father Flanagan’s Tomb.

PRAYER FOR THE CANONIZATION OF
FATHER EDWARD J. FLANAGAN

O God, You made Father Flanagan a great missionary to the troubled children of the world.  The light of faith sustained him in many dark days. Grant that he may be glorified by the church and that we may imitate his virtues of love for the least of God's children and his great trust in Your providence together with submission to Your holy Will.
We ask this in the name of Jesus Christ, Our Lord.  Amen.

GRAND KNIGHTS MESSAGE

Worthy Brother Knights: Every time I sit down to write the Grand Knights Report, I am flooded with gratitude.  I had the good fortune of attending a private Mass in Kearney this last weekend for Sister Mary Ellen’s Golden Jubilee.  The Bishop presented her with a crown of flowers and a flower topped staff.  Hearing Sister reaffirm her vows and tell stories was inspiring.  Later at the luncheon, I had the privilege of sitting next to Sister Anne Mary who has been a Nun for approximately 76 years.  I asked her what she had learned in her 76 years and she shared some beautiful yet simple things.  She says,” In my lifetime these are the most important things I have learned:  1.) Jesus is Love and all Love comes from Him.  We must return His Love to others He so desires us to return our Love to Him!  2.) Marriages fail because of selfishness and self centeredness.  We must be selfless, forgiving and always give.  3.) Nothing is impossible. Always ask Him and you shall receive.  4.) Pray!  Sister had shared much more and told wonderful stories, but these were her words for me.  After the luncheon I went back to the K of C convention.  I reflected on her words and relationships which I am privileged to be involved in; relationships with my wonderful spouse, the men in our Council, my Pastor and many other religious.  Her words rang true.  God is Love and all Love comes from God.  I see it and feel it in our Council as we have been instruments of his Love throughout the year.  We have helped so many people, utilizing our time, talent and treasure.  Some of the people we have served have been our own and some who we don’t know personally, but we give for goodness sake out of Love.  We have shared, this last month alone, in countless hours, utilizing our unique personal gifts and our Council funds to help a deceased Brother’s widow and children (wild game feed), raise funds for the mentally handicap (tootsie roll drive) and continue a Council tradition of showing our deep appreciation for our Religious (sisters appreciation dinner).  This last year has been a year of personal sacrifice for us all.  I wish to Thank-You! I AM FLOODED WITH GRATITUDE!
We have all read “Faith Without Works Is Dead!  Council 652 is an example of Faith, Love and Good Works.  We have all had shared in wonderful ideas that would benefit others.  We have acted on those ideas to make them materialize.  Through, With and In Christ, many of our good works have materialized and made our corner of the world a brighter and better place. It is because of our works that Council 652 has been awarded the K of C State of Nebraska’s two highest awards.  The first being the “Council of the Year”, and the second “Number One Council in the State for Highest Percentage and Number of New Members”!  Thank You!  I AM FLOODED WITH GRATITUDE!

In Loving Service. Yours In Christ.

John Andrew Blaiotta Grand Knight
